The cone flowmeter is a differential pressure (DP) flowmeter specifically engineered for applications with high accuracy requirements and disturbed flow profiles in confined installation spaces. The cone meter body can be installed with 3D/2D straight upstream/downstream pipe length and is suitable for almost any application from natural gas to steam to liquid hydrocarbons. KROHNE offers the complete cone flow metering assembly with the flow element, DP transmitter, accessories, engineering, testing and documentation from one single source.
The cone is installed in the center of the measuring tube forcing the fluid through an annular gap. A controlled turbulence region behind the cone flattens the incoming irregular velocity profile and induces a stable differential pressure that is sensed by a downstream center tap. Designed according to ISO 5167-5 the effect of disturbed flow profiles is eliminated and high accuracies can be achieved even with short straight pipe length. The calculated flow coefficient has an uncalibrated uncertainty of < ±5% of measured value as defined in the ISO 5167-5. KROHNE typically supplies cone meters with uncertainties of < ±0.3% calibrated on fully accredited hot water calibration facilities.
The sophisticated OPTIBAR DP 7060 or the OPTIBAR DP 3050 DP transmitter is the perfect companion for this DP flowmeter solution. Both are 3D linearised and ensure advanced performance even at high static pressures. The OPTIBAR DP series has an outstanding long-term stability and a low total cost of ownership with a reduced need for field calibrations.
